Children are an integral part of our community, and our Children’s Program is designed to meet the spiritual needs of our young Friends in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment. Each week, our children gather in their own space with a teacher while their parents and the other adults settle into Meeting for Worship. Traditionally called “First Day School” by Quakers, this time is spent in a lesson centered around Quaker values and practice. Sample topics for these lessons include kindness, telling the truth, caring for the Earth, and “What Exactly Are the Grown-Ups Doing in Meeting for Worship?” Most weeks the children complete an art project in conjunction with the lesson. At about 5:45, the children join the adults and stay until the rise of Meeting, when they show us their artwork, sharing with us what they learned in that day’s lesson.
Parents are always welcome to attend First Day School along with their children.
